Official Feedback Thread - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Thanks for attending epic3, it's certainly been a good one from the perspective of the staff.

This thread will be used in addition to the survey we've published on the website.

Please post a no-holds-barred feedback, we won't judge you! Without knowing what to keep/improve, we can't!! :)

Loved the event and I have no complaints! (Yet)

The big screen is very good, the time table was well organised. Unfortunately missed out on some big games we wanted to play in due to insisting we complete the hunt before playing games! but I guess that's out fault - not yours.

Speaking of the hunt, the questions could do with a little more pre-lan preparation. ;)

The music was fab. Yet the track suggestion web page needs some UI improvements, I didn't use it due to UI. Live DJs are cool.

We've played a massive amount of werewolfs this LAN and everyone is noticably improving in their ability to play. I suggest this we officially added to the timetable?

The only other suggestion I have is that you change the map on CSS more often and perhaps with CSS and TF2 you forcibly make sure that the compositions of the teams are mixed up a little more. There is nothing more annoying that being fodder for an hour because the level of skill between the teams is unbalanced.

Great event, nothing really to complain about.

The venue is great, always loved Uttoxeter and the layout is perfect. Maybe improve the console area though, i prefered the console area at MMU but thats probably because it was comfier.

Loving the music and the ability to request songs, a bigger selection would have been nicer though, there were a lot of songs I would have liked to play that weren't listed. Love the live DJ sets too.

My only complaint would probably be the shower facilities. Portable showers do the job but could have been warmer and cleaner.

I didn't take part in werewolfs or mafia but would love some other social stuff organised to this effect, such as poker or something.

Agree with Poker!

I would have played and do/did have the kit. Worth knowing for next time.

Litterally epic.lan :)

Only less epic things were the lack of variety in the songs that were picked.

Good:

werewolves - dont think ive played it soo many times before

bar - good prices, good selection

kustom for supplying Mountain Dew, Bawls and Tablet :D

Bad:

Sleeping room leakage, kept hearing drips through the night

Cold sleeping room, although somewhat fixed with the heater

me failing at the hunt

my computer deciding to say "fuck you" to me when playing games

Ugly:

Swifts singing on rock band.

Big thanks to the guys who organised and ran the event, imo, it was better then the last even though the venue was not as good as the last (Doesn't include the showers which i know was out of your control).

Maybe its just me being a Yorkshire man, but I didn't think the BAR or breakfast service was 'GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY'. I did buy some drinks though I was disappointed at the selection. The breakfast was a good enough quality and variety, but as with the bar, it would be better if they could do you a discount to make your event more successful and thus give them the return business!

I enjoyed the a few of the Big games and the Team Fortress 2 tournament was ace!

Good socialising, attractive gaming and a great LAN party overall. Just a little let down by the venue I guess, especially for the price of the ticket now its gone up.

All that said I hope to make the next EPIC LAN and would be happy if it was just as good as this one!!

Thanks again to the staff for such a great effort and hard work!

breakfast wasn't good value for money really. I disliked having no choice of items for the breakfast like we did at Alsager, and no option to swap unwanted items really annoyed me.

Next time I really need to introduce myself and chat with more people, but that's my own personal issue.

Loved the event.

The ONLY 2 bad points I have are 1) Portale showers suck (the alternative ones were good) and 2) Twisting my ankle and having to hop about for saturday and sunday! (Thanks to Sakey and his lovely other half for having a quick look at it for me)

I'm sure that people were able to swap unwanted items.

Yeah, I swapped items each day, as did others. When asked, the staff were happy to. People were also building their own for 50p an item. It just wasn't clear on the menu.

We're sitting in Frankie and Bennies in Uttoxeter now and a full size breakfast is £8.50 without coffee.

Good:

Finding out that a T-shirt can bring so much joy to a lan.

Epic big games of TF2

Stable network (I know that 1 row had a few issues, but that was something that couldn't be helped)

Big Sceen (though the site you could access from your desk seemed to have broken at some point)

Killing Floor (wish I had played more)

Green TD (4 slots! wait 3 slots! 4! .... some slots remaining)

ARMAGETRON!

Bad:

People feeling ill at lan, few people were under the weather it seemed

Timing for starting our games - missed Prop Hunt (FYI I am a phone) and Neptune thingie.

Heater in the sleeping room seemed to put out nothing but light and no heat :(

lack of veggie breakfast options - not a concern for me, but celzie nivek must have felt left out?

Ugly:

thanks swyft.

epic.hunt was a shambles the second day.

1) What the fuck is with the tortoise sex!?

2) You could swap things if you asked, Kayomani swapped a few items. The breakfast may seem like good value for money when compared to Frankie and Bennies for instance, but its not good value for what it is. I use a lot of cafes (that may be something to do with the nature of my job) and I know I could have got more breakfast with better quality (THOUGH DO NOT TAKE THAT, THE BREAKFAST WAS IN ANY WAY BAD QUALITY) for the same price.

How many others frequently use cafes that can do price/quality compare?

I ask because a lot say the bar prices were good, yet I think they are average though I don't go out enough and cannot comment too harshly on the prices because I don't know how they compare.

We went to Frankie and Bennies Saturday night. One of us paid nearly a tenner for a lasagne which for the same size portion you can get from Tesco for £1!

They commented this to the waitress, she talked to the manager and got us 25% off on our food (not drinks).

"Don't ask and you don't get."

;)

It was my first epic.LAN, and the only thing I can say it that it was awesome! Everybody was friendly & sociable (werewolves was fun, could have done with a smaller group though), I got many games in that I wanted to play, and realized that I'm rusty at just about everything :)

I did have a bit more "idle time" that I would have liked though, not anybodies fault just I hadn't bought the games some people were playing so couldn't join in

I've been thinking about this today, not sure how practical though? With the music going the whole time, 'children' shouting at each other (seriously, are microphones for show or what?) and me wearing very good headphones, I kept missing game announcements. Some sort of 'chat/comms' programme like Xfire or another someone else could suggest? Everyone adds only Epic and then the event staff send a group message to all. As I said, not sure how practical..

Easier solution. Use Steam for announcements :)

I pretty much agree with everything that has already been said...

The event as a whole was good, better than Epic. Two in ways

The screens were a good idea, although making them easier to see from all angles would have been nice, the front one was blocked by my monitors and the back one was behind me blocked by other people ;)

games were good, though some clashed with others, I didn't take part in the prop hunt for that reason

The console area could have been better, it was quite hard to see, (bad projector for the light level) and hear, especially when the music was playing louder.

This can also be said for the social area/games like werewolves, it was quite hard to hear each other on occasions due to the music and/or the consoles

the music selection could have been better, scrap the NES/Gameboy music (that was so annoying) and script it to not allow the same track more than twice per day (once before 12 midday, and once after) at most. - a bigger selection (wan't my 77,999 mp3's?)

the bar was 'ok', while the choice was limited, and the prices slightly higher than average, it wasn't overly extortionate.

breakfast quality was below average, the bread was obviously frozen and defrosted and dry alot of the time. £3 for a bacon and egg with dry bread, 2 pieces of hard bacon and an egg, add it up from a supermarket, you can pick up enough to make that 4 times over for £2 more ;)

a BBQ would have been nice, like epic.TWO

sleeping room could do with being better organized, tempreature wasn't an issue for me, nice and toasty :D

i'm sure i'll think of more later, and i'll add to it if/when I do ;)

epic24 seems so long ago and I haven't been back since. Having taken the 3v3 Rocket League tournament, I'm hungry for more.

      And so...

I have plans to return to epic27 with a new team behind me! I am incredibly excited as epic24 was my first taste of a LAN and I loved every minute of it. It's completely worth the 700 miles round trip and I'm ready to do it all over again!
