epic.EIGHT - Feedback (The Good, The Bad, The Ugly)

Recommended Posts

Thank you all for attending epic.EIGHT! It's been a very tiring few months building up to this event, and obviously for the event itself, but hopefully that work has paid off to give you all a great event!

Naturally we want to know how you found the event, so you can give your feedback in a couple of ways:

  • - This allows you to rate the event in a number of key areas and lets us see where we need to focus our efforts, it also gives you the opportunity to comment on issues in private, direct to the team.
  • - If you want to send in more detailed direct feedback to our management team.

  • So the usual idea replies, you tell us what was good, what was bad, and what was really ugly and we see what we can do to make things better next time!

Good:

The event in general was great

Food van

Bar

Quiz

Meeting old friends and some new ones

Boring people to death talking about planetside 2 (btw http://planetside2.com beta signup) :)

Staff support

F1 tournament

Epic radio

Bad

Weather

Spilling a pint over mine and superchief's electrics.

Being repeatedly rammed in the ass in the f1 tourney by a particular player (full damage next time plz)

Ugly

Knobheads in the sleeping areas, making me go spend another £60 on a hotel room or face another sleepless night. (Epic cannot police everything i know)

Good

Seeing friends again, including some I've not seen for a while.

First main Epic event in a year!

Regaining the pub quiz title with the team of win :D

Finally playing some SupCom.

Mass meal out at the pub on Saturday

Hog roast on Friday

F1 fun tourney

Reasonable bar prices

Hotel comfort

Bad

Door shutting fails

Still sucking at SupCom :P

Price for hog roast was a little steep at £6.50 for two baps which weren't especially full

Sleeping area noise and disturbances seem to be common now (although I didn't go in there this time so just hearsay) which makes this a hotel-only event for me now, upping the cost.

Ugly

Mark giving Emma the lurgy!

Packdown :(

Good

Layout of event - plenty space between rows

Meeting up with friends

Catering guys - Quality of food much better

Saturday meal out - Awesome

F1 Tournament

Bad

People failing at NOT snoring in the snoring room FML

Hog Roast - price too high for what we got to be honest

Being told by "Hg" to me asking can he close the door "NO, its too warm in here" im sorry but it was disgusting the smell of cigarette coming inside... and next time ... remove your jacket... if your too warm.

Ugly

Some people are born in barns im sure !!

Anything else im sure was on the other post, please dont delete this one !!

Good

F1 fun tourney

Non Snorer Sleeping Area

Food van (For breakfast)

Weather - Made the room a bearable temperature

Quiz - The epic.team had some half decent rounds with some semi sensible questions.

Kustom PC - Bringing down the Steering wheel etc..

Bad

Food van - Certain prices seemed excessive. I'l comment specifically in the thread.

Quiz - If you don't want to take part - FO and create your noise elsewhere. Dam impossible to hear some of the questions......

Toilets - Some interesting versions of being able to aim. Hall 1 toilets seemed to be okay though...

Hog roast - Why do I bother buying it when I know it's rubbish! Caterers will always include a significant

profit margin in pricing, and to be honest you get better value anywhere else!

Ugly

None at present!

Good

Winning the intro band thing by screaming into a microphone for a few minutes

Winning the pub quiz again, by getting the tie breaker music question in 2 seconds, again

Winning Savage XR as commander, despite never playing it before and just mirroring Bicko's tactics entirely :P

Being back at the new and improved Epic Lan

Causing extreme rage in TF2 by backstabbing everyone 30 times

Hoggy Roast

Managing to get a run in despite the alcohol consumed, probably good practice for the pub quiz

Good bar prices and friendly staff

Overall, friendly people in hall 2

Bad

SHUT THE DOORS

Loss of half the staff to the serious gamerz hall

Not playing anywhere near as many games as I wanted to

F1 tourney taking up loads of peoples time

The rain

Ugly

Me playing Dance Central

Graham exploding

Me and Bez smashing Source players at 1.6

Bad

Me snoring in the "No Snoring" sleep room

Hog Roast a bit on the expensive side

Bar not open late enough

Epic team winning the boat race :(

Ugly

Attmosphere in hall 1 and layout

The catering Van

the people on the bar

Bad

Wanting more players for werewolfs and not being able to shout it out (or have it as a sub on the time table)

The bars prices for anything other then beer, £5 for a double and mixer its £4.40 at the nightclubs :0

The music being the same type the entire time i was there after me putting in requests (online) for other songs

Ugly

Me Not being able to play

the inabliity for people to close the door or a auto closing door

the travel home train being cancelled :( and having to come back through 6 different stations

God damn it gunmens, one day you'll learn to spell the plural of 'Werewolf' properly.

Good

Brilliant to see everyone again.

TF2 Highlander was great fun.

Winning the quiz ;D

Hog roast was tasty, and I'm really glad I decided just to wing it for £3.20, it seemed like I managed to get almost as much as the people who pre-paid and I didn't have to wait in a queue.

Catering van staff were friendly, bacon sandwich Sunday morning was much needed and awesome.

The live music from Haden and Superchief was awesome, I really enjoyed DJ'ing this LAN.

Dapple Grey, nice to have some proper food rather than just nomming on junk all the time, and the company was brill.

Bar staff friendly as usual, although I wish they had a decent ale on tap.. is this something we could inquire about for the event?

Hall 1 staff, helpful and always available, even if Matthab has no enthusiasm on the mic ;)

Savage XR was great fun, gg those under the command of Jobabob!

The racing setup in the Kustom area was cool, even if I can't use it very well (better than swyft at least).

Free hand sanitiser in the bathroom, not a big thing but it was nice.

Bad

People not closing the door. Annoyingly one door auto-closed, the other one (that people always used) did. A notice on the 1 door to use the other would might have been ideal.

Pub quiz seemed shorter than usual, I missed the second bonus round and a games pictures round. Also we really needed some speakers in the back, as we couldn't hear much over everyone in front of us.

Timing of certain events seemed a bit off.. some Big Games or Fun Tournaments were stacked up in pairs when there was a 2 hour gap between them anyway.

Jay stomping 3 of us on his own in a FFA SupCom game ¬_¬

Couldn't get any toast from the catering van :(

Fall Out Boy & Fall Out Boy & Fall Out Boy & Fall Out Boy..

Ugly

The state of Superchief on Friday night, the bar after the boat race, and Graeme too :P

My utter domination of the games of MTG with swyft, Stealth and Tipper -sorry guys!

Had an awesome weekend.

Good

Winning the Tribute Rock Band thing on thurs night :D

Winning the Pub Quiz again!

Winning the Kustom PCs racing competition

Winning team on Boat Race

#Winning :P

Beating Vertigo, Rob and Bicko on supcom

Seeing loads of mates. Only a few people not able to make it

Huge turnout

Meeting new people

2x great Dapple Grey Visits.

Lots of beer!

Bar was good as before. Happy with prices

Nice to have the catering van on site again

Doooooor! - was quite funny at times and meant the room never got too hot. Much easier to warm up than cool down!

Bad

Beating Vertigo, Rob and Bicko on supcom and having no-one else play with me for the rest of the LAN. (granted I didn't chase people on it!) :P

Spent so much on Beer (due to quantity - bar prices were fine!) I'm now poor!

Was difficult to hear some of the rounds in the quiz, lots of people being very loud and no speakers at the back :(

Not having a copy of F1 2011 and not being able spare £30 at the moment

Ugly

Dooooooooooooor!

Some early comments coming in about the showers. Just so you know, we're completely changing suppliers next event, we weren't happy either so we've asked the venue to source somebody else.

I know the issue was cleanliness, but the quality of things like the shower curtains and heads meant that the changing area was getting wet, that wasn't draining and therefore they were getting muddier, so we'll see how the new suppliers go. We did go and buy some mats after the first day to at least give people somewhere to stand in their shoes when they went in to try to help.

That said, I still remember the Silverstone showers last year on the camp site, they were as muddy as the fields...GRIM!

But yes, we're already on the case!

Good

I had fun playing what games I actually got to play.

It was wonderful to see epic friends there and to meet the new ones, specifically Jobabob!

Had two fantastic meals at the Dapple Grey. The company was fantastic on both occasions.

General drinking/socialising was great.

Decent bar prices

Decent hog!

Good sleeping area

Bad

Showers! Someone had thought it a good idea to move the matt meant for your shoes over to the shower...dragging the mud everywhere.

Door!

Ugly

Nothing that I can think of at the moment!

Giving people somewhere to stand and they figuring out what its for are two different things :3

Bit late to the party on this, sorry...

GREAT

- Staff/People/Atmosphere etc. etc.

- Graeme and his triple widescreen goodness, and all associated activity

- F1 tourny (and the look on staff faces when all 20'odd of us showed up at the desk)

- A hopefully sustainable (financially) size of LAN with improved sponsor input

- Live music sets

- A small fire-spinning demo (I missed the main one due to my usual post-work 11pm arrival)

GOOD

- Internet (though I hardly had the time to use it all event)

- At points having to choose between two/three things because there was so much going on

- Recruiting another two epic.gamers (and I'm bringing another to NINE)

- Hog, though a touch more meat per bun would've landed it in the GREAT category

- Matthab's F1 final commentary (just added to the atmosphere)

NOT-SO-GOOD

- Too many projectiles hitting our team in the back of the head during the quiz...Funny the first couple of times, not the 15th

- Door...I've given a couple of specific suggestions in the survey

I didn't play many big games this time, but that was my own fault due to either me not owning a few of them, or wanting to get a few hours of F1 under my belt before the tourny kicked off, as I'd only played it once since I bought it 4 months ago. The actual tourny only took up a little over 3 hours Sat/Sunday combined, so had I not done the practice time, I'd have had more time to join in other stuff.

The fact that yet again, I've turned up to a 3 day, 24 hour (well, 18 after sleep) event, and am struggling to work out how I ran short of time, is the best way I can think of to illustrate the calibre of this event, and as I've said before, the effort put in by staff to make it what it is never ceases to amaze me. Thankyou.

I'm unusually late to this thread, it's one I always like taking part in and reading other people's opinions. I'm late because of the problems with my back that first happened when I was clearing snow 3 weeks ago and I aggravated dealing with the TUP machines. The LAN, as always, was a great experience.

The Good

The high number of players - it was great, esp. In Hall One, to have so many attendees.

The games played

The F1 tournament was superb

Meeting old friends and making new ones

Jon allowing Mattz0r and & I set up the TUP machines, I really enjoyed that responsibility!

Two pub meals with excellent company - the epic Saturday invasion of the Dapple Grey was fun :)

Spending time with the Epic radio staff in their sauna, sorry, studio.

The staff, both epic and behind the bar, you have my respect, admiration and thanks.

Standing right behind Inferno as he was trying to sabbotage my PC ... And the look on his face when he turned around :)

The pub quiz and winning again!

The Bad

F**king up my back ... But that's my own fault

I didn't think much of the new caterering van, the service was good but the food was naff

The hog roast, £6.50 for 2 pork cobs was a dissapointment. Maybe i've been spoiled by the pub meals?

A big game of Blur clashing with the Warsow tournament, then there being a big gap between games.

The Ugly

Nothing really.

I'd also like to echo what Chris said, it's a full on 3 day event and I still failed to do everything I wanted! It's my own fault and I'm not complaining, the great thing about these events is that they're never, ever boring. As I've said many times before even though this is a gaming event it's not the games that make it so special, it's the people.

BTW, was at Earls Court today for an event, it was £6.50 for one pork roll and god knows how long it had been sitting on the hot plate for, certainly wasn't delivered and prepared fresh in front of my eyes...just saying...

epic24 seems so long ago and I haven't been back since. Having taken the 3v3 Rocket League tournament, I'm hungry for more.

      And so...

I have plans to return to epic27 with a new team behind me! I am incredibly excited as epic24 was my first taste of a LAN and I loved every minute of it. It's completely worth the 700 miles round trip and I'm ready to do it all over again!
