M0RT's Obligatory Tabletop RPG Topic for epic.FIFTEEN

Pretty much what it ways on the tin/title.

I'm hoping to run  a one off session of Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG, a pen and paper tabletop RPG similar to Dungeons & Dragons (but with a few fun and unique twists) It's an easy system to pick up and I try to make my games accessible to newbies as well as fun for folk who have played before.

I'll post it on the casual event timetable thingy once the events starts, but post here if you're interested and want to be kept in the loop.

I'd be really interested in playing this at 15. I'm a massive fan of RPG video games and I'm semi-familiar with dungeons and dragons ruling through many years of playing Neverwinter Nights! I have experience roleplaying, although it has all been through text in the past and I've never had the opportunity to play anything D&Dish IRL before. Count me in!

I'll take a browse over the linked website! Will you share any information as to which campaign we will play before the event or will it be a surprise?

(PS: Should we make up character sheets before the event and bring them with us, or will we all sit down and have a crafty 30 mins or so to create before we start playing?)

Cool, glad there's some interest.

The last session I ran at epic was a 'funnel' adventure where each player ran a handful of level zero peasants, farmers, bakers etc through and adventure.  Good fun for a one off and also a great way of generating a character or two for a longer term campaign, assuming any survive ;)

Depending on what folk want to play I'm happy to run another funnel or a more conventional adventure to give players the more typical character classes and better access to magic etc.  Either way I'll bring pregenerated characters, running through character generation eats into game time!

I normally play pathfinder and Cthulu adventures but i've DM'ed a couple of 4th ed adventures before. Funnel sounds good to me though, given I have some time restrictions, but i'm happy and up for whatever!

Usually play for a few hours one evening, try and work around folk playing in tourneys and working shop shifts etc.  I'll put it on the casual event timetable and use this thread to remind people.

Dice?  I've got enough, if there ever can be enough (you can certainly never have too many)

I know some people like to use their own and that's cool, but I think we're good for dice ;)

I probably have a couple of sets of CoCt dice that are yet unopened (freebies from Essen a few years ago) that I will bring with me just in case we need more :)

I think I've decided on what I want to run:

Prince Charming, reanimator

Prince Hubert Charming, son of the Baron of Westlake, and heir to Westlake Manor, is well known as a cold man, whose watery blue eyes seem to betray no emotion at all. Yet he is a great lover of beauty, as all his wives have proven.

The first he found working in the cinders of a woodsman’s cottage. Some say that the girl’s jealous stepsisters threw her down a well to prevent her from becoming the young prince’s bride, but even death did not bar Prince Charming, and she enchanted everyone at the wedding. Her stepsisters were placed in spiked barrels filled with hot coals and dragged through the town until they themselves died.

Whatever process Prince Charming used to revive his bride, it did not last forever.  All too soon, the Princess Ella took ill and died. Charming then found another bride, and there was no doubt in this case that she was dead. She was entombed in a glass coffin guarded by half a dozen or so dwarves.  Yet, when Prince Charming injected his magic elixir and kissed her upon the lips, her eyelids fluttered open and she breathed again!  The story was told that the new Princess had been in but a deep coma, a sham of death, until a poisoned apple was dislodged by the Prince’s kiss. But folk began to whisper in dread, and none were surprised when it was announced that Princess Snow, like Princess Ella, succumbed to a fatal illness after only a few years of marital bliss.

In all kingdoms there are tales, and in the Barony of Westlake, it is said that the Grimmswood hides the ruins of a long-lost realm.  The daughter of its final king, cursed by a malevolent faerie, pricked her finger on a spindle upon her sixteenth birthday, in the blossom of her youth, and died.  With her death, the kingdom went to ruin.  Few now dare to go far into the Grimmswood, although the riches of the lost kingdom are said to lie unclaimed within.  Fear of dark fey magic and even greater evils keep men out. Or they did so until now.

For Prince Hubert Charming of Westlake has determined that the long-dead Princess Beauty is only cursed to sleep away the aeons, and he will have her for his bride. His men rounded up a stable of “volunteers†at the beginning of one early autumn morning, and here you are, with what makeshift arms and equipment you had upon you when you were “volunteered† Your mission, the Prince’s Bailiff explains, is to enter the ruined castle, find the place where the “Sleeping†Beauty lies, and bring her forth for Prince Charming to restore with a kiss.  Those who choose not to go upon this quest must take their chances with the Prince’s Guard, twenty men strong, and be declared outlaw. Those who choose to hazard their lives within the ruined castle may keep what they find, apart from the sleeping princess, but dare not leave without her.

<BUMP>

This is midday today, (timed nicely for the bar to be open)  in the boardgames area.

There will probably be space for an extra player or two and it's newbie friendly.

Here's the almost obligatory tabletop RPG thread.

Given that Epic.24 is a week after UK Games Expo I'll have a ton of games I can run.  Fantasy, Weird West, World War 2 Commandos and I've also got the itch to run some post apocalyptic sci fi.  There will be other folk running games as well I'm sure.

All welcome including folk completely new to D&D and tabletop roleplaying, we're usually playing in the board game area.

I'll be there all weekend running RPGs as usual, I'm ruining five games but will always try and make time for beer, coffee, hugs etc with epic people

RPG  games are listed here http://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/bookevents.php?category=rpg

I'm going to be staffing epic 23 so I'll be spending less time in the board games area this event, that said I am hoping to run a Tabletop RPG session on the central stream and I'll be looking for victims players who want to take part.

I'll be running my favourite system, Dungeon Crawl Classics which is a modern D&D like game with some new funky rules.  I'm running great little adventure called The 13th Skull (which @gunmens may remember from last years UK Games Expo)

"Thirteen generations ago, the ambitious first Duke of Magnussen made a fell pact with an unknown power, who asked for but one thing in return: the thirteenth daughter born to a Magnussen duke. Now, generations hence, the daughter of Duke Magnussen XIII is stolen away by a hooded executioner riding a leathery beast. As it wings back across the city walls to drop behind the Duke’s mountain-top keep, all who watch know it alights in the Magnussen family crypts, where the devilish secrets of thirteen generations have been buried and forgotten – until now…"

Here's last summer's broadcast to give you an idea of how the stream games work:  https://www.twitch.tv/videos/152680422

No previous RPG experience is required, I'm happy to teach the game as we go but I AM looking for players who are reasonably confident and happy to take part in a session on stream.    Times are to be confirmed, but I think we're looking at a Friday afternoon session and we're usually limited to four players but it would be good to have a standby or two given that schedules change with tournaments etc.

epic24 seems so long ago and I haven't been back since. Having taken the 3v3 Rocket League tournament, I'm hungry for more.

      And so...

I have plans to return to epic27 with a new team behind me! I am incredibly excited as epic24 was my first taste of a LAN and I loved every minute of it. It's completely worth the 700 miles round trip and I'm ready to do it all over again!
