Elsie

My Mrs just doesn't get it

Recommended Posts

We owe an electrician £25. She has agreed that instead of paying him the cash, I will look at their fathers laptop running Windows Vista. Apparently it's old and slow.

Er, no. I am NOT doing that.

Why? She says. It'll save us £25.

OK,  I say. I will look at the laptop at Mates Rates, say £7 an hour.

You cant charge for it! Says SWMBO.

Really? Says I. Have you any idea just how long it's going to take? It'll be hours spent removing crap and resinstalling stuff.

She really got the hump when I got the £25 put of my wallet to pay as I would rather hand over cash to NOT have to look at the laptop.

Best advice I will give is buy a new laptop!

100% agree. £25 isn't worth the hassle of sorting out a laptop. And it's not just sorting it out this time, the next time they'll want you to have a look as well.

Plus, if anything goes wrong it will be your fault, and if anything goes wrong in future it will be your fault and if the laptop stops working in 30 years, it will be your fault :)

I've just helped my Mum get setup with a new laptop to replace her old (vista) one.

I'll will sort out her old one (she'll probably keep it at her caravan/holiday home) because she's family, but you're completely right, it's way more than 25 quids 'worth' of effort to do it (especially considering I'm replacing the lcd inverter too!)

@Elsie - you are a wise man. This is exactly why you don't ever do 'mates rates' for any trade. Doesn't matter if my best buds laptop breaks. I charge him out at £15-20 per hour. If my car breaks he charges me at £35-45 an hour. Just because you aren't a computer repair technician (I'm assuming your not) doesn't mean people should expect you to charge less just because.

Me and a mate are attending the Cardiff CS:GO qualifiers. Looking to join a team that needs 2 x mercs.

We've been playing since 1.6 on and off, are part of an online team, and are usually rank LE+

epic24 seems so long ago and I haven't been back since. Having taken the 3v3 Rocket League tournament, I'm hungry for more.

      And so...

I have plans to return to epic27 with a new team behind me! I am incredibly excited as epic24 was my first taste of a LAN and I loved every minute of it. It's completely worth the 700 miles round trip and I'm ready to do it all over again!
